(1838-1914) Мьюр, ДжонПисатель и натуралист, выходец из Шотландии. Одним из первых в США выступил в защиту лесов. Описал свои пешие походы по Калифорнии, северо-западу Тихоокеанского побережья [ Pacific Northwest] и Аляске в многочисленных статьях и книгах, пользовавшихся огромной популярностью. Среди них "История моего детства и юношества" ["The Story of My Boyhood and Youth"] (1913), "Крутые тропы" ["Steep Trails"] (1918) и др. Одним из наиболее очевидных результатов его природоохранных усилий стало создание национальных парков - Йосемитского [ Yosemite National Park] и "Секвойя" [ Sequoia National Park], а также Национального памятника "Леса Мьюра" [ Muir Woods National Monument].
